We went from the basic Ford factory AM/FM radio to the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX 6.94 TouchScreen Multimedia Receiver: it has Android Auto & Apple CarPlay (wireless or USB), backup camera ready, DVD receiver, Bluetooth, SiriuxXM, etc. I'd use a bluetooth device, but so far I haven't found one that lets me output the audio to the speaker with a mic input for a higher quality mic to be more optimally placed than the bluetooth receiver (I'm planning on tapping into the original handsfree Mic wiring in the overhead console). This is not an Apple Carplay or an Android auto unit, but a separate Android instance with apps you can install. In which case, I would think you could put a simple switch between the audio output of your iPad, and the iPhone, so you could switch the phone call to your speakers when you make it. Comments: Looks like a nice option if you want the original dash and have a Factory navigation. Are you able to make calls through your iPad system with continuity (assuming you have an iPhone)? I would think you could answer them, not sure you could initiate them such that they were going through the iPad. 1.0.0 commits us to a promise that the library is stable and continues to be production-ready, and that no breaking changes will be added to Dash for the near.
